Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid which supports thyroid function to maintain metabolic activity and regulates the brain’s ability to know when it’s full. A study by the University of Adelaide showed that Phenylalanine is one of the amino acids that stimulates the release of a hormone called cholecystokinin. The presence of this hormone suppresses appetite, resulting in reduced caloric intake.

Phenylalanine also leads to the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter released when you enjoy something pleasurable. According to the results of a University of Muenster study, normal dieting drops your dopamine levels, stimulating your appetite, leading to weight gain. Phenylalanine keeps your dopamine levels high and decreases your weight.

Taurine is another amino acid which helps you burn more fat. It works by improving metabolic function in cells, but also prevents you from losing muscle mass while you rapidly lose weight. It's also one of the few non-stimulants that significantly helps boost your energy level.
